Interests

This is the page where I get to be a little bit self-indulgent. And you get to know be a little better, through my interests.

I believe that we can tell a lot about someone by their hobbies and interests. And for years I hated having to put them on my CV. In fact, for years I had none, none that I consider worth talking about in any case.

Then a few things happened and I discovered the joy of doing things for the sake of doing them. Not for love, not for money. Just for them. To the point that, once finished, they could be discarded. Interests, in other words.

What I learnt through that was that sometimes I would never finish something – because I did not want to discard it. By discard I necessarily mean to “throw away”, it could be a written piece that gets put into a folder and forgotten.

A bit of a ramble.

But you are here because you’re in a rambling state of mind so I don’t feel so bad about it. Some mornings or evenings we just need to take time out and read dross.

I have a number of different projects I am working on. Some see daily activity, others are more intermittent. But all of them interest me and I would do all of them always, if I could.

They include:

• building and fitting out a house in a semi-trailer
• learning to play the bass guitar
• barefoot trail running
• learning Python
• mapping networks of influence
• learning to sing
